Planning

  • The summer months and month end are the busiest times for many movers. Planning your move outside of those times can give you more flexibility in your pickup and delivery times. If you are moving during the summer, schedule early to be certain we can work with your schedule.
  • Arrange to disconnect your utilities. You’ll want to leave your phone services on for moving day, and have utilities available at your new location for move-in.
  • Notify any friends and family or co-workers of your new address, and your moving date.

Packing

  • It’s never too early to start packing, especially if you’re doing it yourself. Consider starting a month before your move.
  • Don’t need an item? Don’t move it. Sell, give or throw away anything you don’t want. Have a moving sale or garage sale. Give items you don’t need to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or another charity.
  • If packing yourself, pack your goods with care and ample protection, and make a list of all valuables. Make sure to write down the contents of each box, and the room they should go in. Mark fragile boxes as such, and make sure to check them first when unloading. Write the room that each box belongs to on the outside of the box.
  • If packing professionally, be present on the day. An inventory of all goods will be created, and you should be sure the inventory is accurate, listing valuable items separately.
  • Pack your items in any container that can be used as a box. Trash cans, hampers, suitcases all work well as box alternatives.

Pickup

  • Be present and available during the pickup.
  • Pack enough clothing and toiletries for 2 weeks separately, and move with them yourself.
  • Make sure any appliances are turned off, and disconnected. Defrost refrigerators and freezers. Strip your beds, and make sure they’re ready to be packed.
  • Make sure we know how to contact you at any point during the move – we recommend providing us with a cell phone or other contact numbers (hotel, friends, family, etc…)

Delivery

  • Be present and available for delivery, and ready to direct your movers which room each box should go in.
  • Look over your boxes and furniture to check ensure that safe delivery took place. Make sure you’re satisfied with the condition before you sign the delivery receipt.
